Six steps for the first six days after job loss
A few days ago, I was talking to someone who was facing his first interview in many years, and I asked what he was doing to prepare for it. “Wing it,” was his answer. After all the effort it takes these days to even get an interview, I couldn’t think of a worse answer. He’s a bright guy, but there are a lot of bright guys out there vying for jobs.
Low thunder in the distance. A little pang in your tooth. An unusual grinding sound when you start the car. Trouble brewing. And then there’s the unexpected letter in the mailbox with the IRS’s return address.
As far as home values go, Texas has been lucky in the current economic crisis. Other states have seen far more foreclosures, largely a result of high unemployment, as in Ohio and Michigan, or because overvalued homes resulted in owners being deep “underwater” on their loans when home values normalized, as in Florida and California.
