The Dish on
Signature Chefs

Local taste buds are watering in anticipation of this year’s Signature Chefs gala. The March of Dimes fund-raiser is an amazing culinary celebration where guests sample a delicious array of gourmet cuisine prepared by San Antonio’s finest chefs. You don’t have to know a saté from a sauté to delight in the Signature Chefs’ distinctive dishes or to bid on their culinary packages during a live auction.

“Signature Chefs has quickly grown into the premier culinary event of the season,” says Beverly Purcell-Guerra, 2007 Signature Chefs co-chair. “It’s a rare opportunity to indulge your palate, meet our region’s top chefs in person and help the March of Dimes fight to save babies.”

This year’s Signature Chefs is scheduled for November 18th at the Westin La Cantera. Participating chefs currently include Jason Dady — The Lodge/Bin 555, Heather Nanez — Bohanan’s Prime Steaks and Seafood, Jonathan Demeterio — Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar, Shane Bruns — Oro Restaurant & Bar, Cesar Gallegos — St. Anthony Hotel, Dwayne Gale — Eyes Over Texas at The Tower of Americas, Caryn Hasslocher — Fresh Horizons Creative Catering, Jonathan Parker — Merchants Grand Café, Gus Ortiz — Silo Elevated Cuisine, Ernie Estrada — Francesca’s at Sunset, Westin La Cantera, Craig Ognoski, — Craig’s Saute and Grill, and Mike Bomberg — Spice of Life Catering.

On top of preparing all of the tantalizing dishes, the Signature Chefs also show their generosity by contributing some extraordinary travel and dining packages. The ingredients for these creative packages can incorporate private cooking lessons, company parties
or getaways to stunning locations. As you can imagine, bidding is fierce during the exciting live auction.
Last year, Chef Laurel Waters really turned up the heat when she doubled her package on the spot. The surprise move helped her bring in the highest bid of the night, $13,000!

“We’ve worked very hard to raise the bar each year and make this the most exciting event of the season,” adds Purcell-Guerra. “Whether you are a new or returning guest, you are sure to be enthralled by the atmosphere and the high-quality food and auction packages.”

Other elements of the night include live entertainment, a wine bar and silent auction. Tickets and table sponsorships are still available.
